I have two scheduled with Paradise Fibers that are coming up shortly:
See: http://www.paradisefibers.net/Spokane-Knitting-and-Spinning-Classes-s/296226.htm
“Rigid Heddle Class with Jen” on March 12th and April 16th (two separate class dates).
This class will be the very introduction to weaving (we supply the project and use of a loom), but we’ll finish a scarf in that couple of hours. It’s geared toward folks who “really aren’t sure they’d like weaving” and want to get a little experience before diving in with their own loom.
In the works:
Fiber Arts Camp for Kids (June 20-24th, 2011)
Needle Felting Classes
Rigid Heddle Project classes for folks who own rigid heddle looms and want a hands-on start-to-finish class that culminates in something that isn’t a scarf. There’s so many cool things you can do with your rigid heddle, and we’ll explore just a few of them.

I did weaving demos at the Spokane Interstate Fair with Paradise Fibers. If you spun on the new Paradise Fibers spinning wheel at the fair, then your yarn in incorporated into this scarf. Come by Paradise Fibers to pet the scarf in person.

This little puppy is a commissioned piece for a baby shower. He’s headed off to the east coast (with a stop over in CA) next month.

I thought, for the Scottish Highland Games, that I ought to have some Scottish themed project . . . but having the last names Garrison and Stuber (one very English, one very German) didn’t lend itself to weaving a tartan from my clan. So while I was dinking around online, I ran across the Washington State tartan — who knew we had one of our own?

I warped the borrowed rigid heddle loom from Paradise for the WA state tartan, and started weaving. It didn’t take long for me to realize just how bad an idea this was as a “try it” demo . . . too many colour changes and weaving-in for an ongoing demo for the general public. At that point, I still really wanted to have a weaving demo for the public to be able to try, so I finished off the tartan scarf, and rewarped the loom for a simpler project.

The Washington State Tartan is an all wool scarf, and the Highlands Demo Scarf is a poly fiber blend warp and a wild boucle weft from reclaimed yarn.

Want to learn to weave, but you’ve been too intimidated to go out on your own?
Join the Angry Spinner at Paradise Fibers this fall and learn to weave on a rigid heddle loom.
Learn the basics of warp and weft, learn to dress the loom, fill a shuttle, and weave beautiful fabrics.
Classes begin this fall when Paradise moves to their new location in Spokane, WA.

One day, Farmerteen and I showed up at Paradise Fibers and I was greeted with, “Jen! The Angry Spinner!” as I often am . . . then they asked who Farmerteen was, and she quipped that she was the Annoyed Weaver. As it turns out, Farmerteen isn’t particularly annoyed (except when her grandfathers talk politics at her), and hasn’t done much weaving (she was doing loop potholders then, and but has done some rigid heddle since).
She’s working on a new title, since she’s got into sewing . . . she’s suggested “The Sad Sew-er” and I’ve countered with “The Serendipitous Seamstress” or “The Tempestuous Tailor” (since “sew-er” without the hypen is “sewer” . . . ).
So — any ideas for Farmerteen’s new moniker?

Come see me this Saturday, 7 August 2010, at the Scottish Highland Games at the Spokane Fair and Expo Center, where I’ll be demonstrating spinning and weaving.
Paradise Fibers has offered generous yarn support and the loan of an Ashford Rigid Heddle Loom, so you can try your hand at weaving. I’ll also be weaving the Washington State Tartan (who knew WA has its own tartan?)

Thank you for making my very first show a resounding success.

I love Spokane — it rains practically every year for Art Fest, and Spokanites grab their umbrellas and head out in the rain like our neighbors on the we(s)tside.
